Abortion clinics.

There are at least 40 private clinics and hospitals across Canada that offer abortion services. The first city to open a freestanding clinic that offered abortions was in Montreal in 1968. Dependent upon each province, private clinics may provide more abortion services than hospitals and vice versa. According to the 2014 statistics gathered by the Canadian Institute for Health Information, hospitals in Alberta performed approximately 2,093 abortions, and private clinics in Alberta performed approximately 11,722 abortions. These statistics reflect information gathered from several hospitals and private clinics across the province. For example, Women's Health Options, formerly the Morgentaler Clinic, is a private clinic that performs over 5,000 abortions per year. Abortion clinics in Alberta are privately owned and operated.
